Canadian Athletes Competing at the 2017 Moomba Masters

Moomba Masters starts the 2017 water ski season in Melbourne, Australia.  Canadians are heading down under for the event from March 8-13, 2017, starting with the Junior Moomba Masters, Open Moomba Masters and Moomba Night Jump.

Canadian athletes competing at this prestigious event include Whitney McClintock, Ryan Dodd, Stephen Neveu, Breanne Dodd, Jason McClintock and Neilly Ross.

  

    
 

The competition takes place on the Yarra River in downtown Melbourne.   The water ski event is part of the annual Moomba Festival and thousands of spectators line the shore every year to watch this exciting event. This event has been happening every year since the 1960’s.

Whitney McClintock is the reigning Moomba slalom champion and she will be back to defend her title. She has won this event five times in a row and last year set a new course record of 5 buoys at 39½ off. She was also 2nd in the Overall event last year. Whitney had a fantastic 2016 season that included claiming the Pan Am Slalom title. Whitney will be competing in all 3 events, slalom, trick and jump.   Follow Whitney on Instagram @whitmcclintock

Ryan Dodd is the World Jump Champion and he also holds the Canadian Jump Record of 73.7m.  Ryan will be competing in the Open Jump event and the Night Jump event.  Last year Ryan won the Moomba Night Jump and he was 2nd in the Open Jump event.  Follow Ryan on Instagram @rdodd250

Jason McClintock is the Canadian Slalom Record holder with a score of 5 buoys at 10.25m / 41’ off.  Jason will be competing in the Slalom event. Follow Jason on Instagram @jmacskis

Neilly Ross will be competing in Slalom and Trick events in the Open Moomba Masters and the Slalom and Trick events in the Junior Moomba Masters.   Neilly recently competed at Junior Worlds in January where she finished 2nd in Open Trick and 3rd in Open Slalom. She holds the Canadian Women Trick Record with a score of 10,310. Last year’s Moomba event, Neilly was 1st Trick in the Junior Moomba Masters and 3rd in Open Trick.  Follow Neilly on Instagram @neilly.ross

Stephen Neveu was the U21 World Slalom Champion in 2013.  He is competing in the slalom competition in Latrobe City, Australia March 4-5.  Follow Stephen on Instagram @stephenneveu
